DoJ Increases Aggression Towards DAPL Activists

Water protectors at the camp view the recent round of arrests, warrants, and ordered evacuation as the DoJ attempting to kill their resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline. The DAPL is almost complete, it only needs to go a little further through the Standing Rock Sioux land and under the river. The Sioux have had their property rights taken away by the federal government who has chosen the side of money over the legal rights of a minority group. A judge dismissed the criminal trespass charges against three Pipeline Protesters halfway through their jury trial this morning.

According to lawyers in the courtroom, Judge Allan Schmalenberger found the prosecutor had not shown the land was posted or that the protesters had been asked by an authorized person to leave — at least one of which is required to prove criminal trespass.

Pope Francis: Native Americans Should Have Final Say About Their Land

Pope Francis declared that Native Americans deserve the right to give prior consent to any economic activity that affects their ancestral lands.

On Wednesday, Pope Francis attended the Indigenous Peoples Forum in Rome and defended the rights of indigenous tribes. The meeting was part of the UN International Fund for Agricultural Development, and Pope Francis addressed 40 representatives of the 300 largest indigenous groups in the world.
